Roman Victoriana

I love going to Munich from time to time. There are several reasons for that: first, I get to see my family. Second, to satisfy my cravings for German bread (in case you’ve had German bread before, you probably know what I’m banging on about… By the way: If you haven’t had flour and water baked in Deutschland before, please try. It’s so good!). Third, I get to go shopping with my mum who has an eagle eye for the nicest things. So what does any of this have to do with this outfit?

Even though I’ve been obsessing over the Victoriana vibes of Alberta Ferretti’s A/W 15 collection, never in a zillion years would I have spotted this Victorian style blouse (in my defence the blouse was dumped in some dark corner at the Mango store in Munich, and you would have only been able to spot it if you were in fact an eagle). Anyway…it was my mum who saw it and thanks to her I now feel like Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Although I love the delicacy of the blouse, I wanted to create a more contemporary look around it: hence, the leather/wool dress plus my favourite gladiator sandals (the ultimate shoe trend of the year). Now that I’m thinking about it, the leather/gladiator sandal combo would’ve been right up Xena’s street (you know the warrior princess from the 90s television show) haha. Let’s say then that I look like a contemporary cross between Xena and Elizabeth Bennet, which I guess ultimately makes me a Roman Victorian.
