Helen of Troy

Some movies just stick with you forever. In my case it’s the film adaptation of Troy. You know the one with Brad Pitt as Achilles and Orlando Bloom playing Paris – now I’ve got your attention, right? I remember as if it were yesterday. A sunny day in May of 2004 where approximately 20 teenagers and a thirteen-year old me went to see the movie for my best friend’s birthday. After more than three hours of Brad and Orlando (trust me three hours just weren’t enough), I was for some reason the last one to leave the cinema (probably as I was still fantasising of BP and OB) and the group unknowingly left without me. An experience that has left me traumatised ’til this day. I know I’m exaggerating but it adds some drama.

But OB, BP and being forgotten about aren’t the only factors which contributed to this unforgettable Troy experience. Helen of Troy is famously the face that launched a thousand ships. Well, Diane Kruger as Helen of Troy certainly launched the fashion equivalent of a thousand ships for me. Seeing her hair adorned with golden Grecian headbands made me want to embellish mine with a zillion more. So, eleven years later, here I am adorned with a Grecian-inspired headband. But just one. For now at least.
