Orange Is the New Black

Television can be a great source of education and life coaching. MTV for instance supported me through thick and thin during my first heartbreak – bawling my eyes out to a cacophony of soppy songs and their accompanying videos turned out to be particularly cathartic therapy and very cheap at that (adieu free MTV). However, my late teen years are now long gone (unfortunately) and I’m no longer able to justify hours of MTVi(ew)ng.

As a ‘grown-up’ (still have a lot of growing up to do btw) millennial I turn to Netflix shows such as Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Orange Is the New Black. Both are wonderfully written and pleasant life companions. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt makes me feel like I can take over the world whenever I’m hiding in my bed holding an ice cream tub in one hand and a chocolate bar in the other whilst OITNW gives me plenty of fashion inspiration. An example: I never intended to buy this bag in orange – my mind was telling me ‘black, black, black!’ But as I walked into the store and saw this perfect satsuma-coloured bag, the title OITNB came to mind and my heart told me ‘orange, orange, orange!’). End of the story: my heart won I found a way to solve the mind-heart dilemma. Orange is indeed the new black for me but black will always be here to stay.
