Pastels a la Mexicana

In 1997 Thalía, one of Latin America’s most successful pop stars and actresses endeared the whole of Central and South America with her single ‘Amor a la Mexicana‘. I was only six at the time, but in that very moment I knew that I had to go to Mexico. For Thalía’s sake (and also because I just had to have one of the sombreros from the music video).

I’ve grown out of my Thalía-obsessed phase by now but Mexico is still very close to my heart. I’m yet to visit which means there’s still no sombrero on my head but I try to satisfy my cravings in whatever way possible. It starts with food and telenovelas and ends in fashion. In this case it’s this coat which I found in Lisbon in May. It was like there was an electrostatic attraction between us. When I saw the pattern, all I could imagine was me in Tulum, on a hammock, wearing a pink sombrero and this super duper coat. For now it’s just me and the coat wandering the streets of London. But whenever I finally manage to get my feet on Mexican ground, I’ll capture the look with the coat and my long lost sombrero.
